Summary

Are you looking for a flexible volunteer role that does not require a regular weekly commitment?
Are you someone who recognizes the importance of family support

Detailed description

If so, you could help the prison in delivering Family Visit days throughout the year (approx two per month) which allow families to have an extended visit and interact with each other in a more relaxed setting than a normal visit.

Why a family visit? Independent studies on the area of working with families have shown that maintaining positive family ties reduces the likelihood of future offending and can aid a reduction in the level of anti-social behaviour of the children of prisoners.

How can you help? Based in the prison visits hall your help would be welcomed with serving the refreshments and buffet at these events. There are also opportunities to help and encourage the Mums and Dads and children to enjoy craft, activities and games.

The day runs from 10.00-3pm but you can come for as little or as long as you want and chairs, food, tea and coffee are provided

No specific qualifications however volunteers must have a mature outlook, be willing to help, be interested in others and be a good communicator. It would be helpful to be patient, empathetic and a good listener

About Friends of Peterborough Prison

Although run as a Not-for-Profit organisation, Friends Of Peterborough Prison (FOPP) is not a charity but is a company limited by guarantee. It is run by a board of directors, one of whom is designated as chair. The directors are all unpaid volunteers and are, or have been, FOPP volunteers in the prison or Tea-Bar.
