Summary
Support members of the public to attend Twilight at the Museums, organised by the University of Cambridge Museums in February half term.
Detailed description
Organised by the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM), Twilight at the Museums provides an opportunity for families to explore museums and collections in a unique way after hours.
There will be a number of Twilight events, both drop-in and bookable, taking place on Wednesday 18 February 2026 in venues across the city. Last year, Twilight attracted almost 4,500 visits across the collections.
We are looking for a team of friendly, enthusiastic people to help members of the public - especially families - get the most from the evening as they move between collections within the city.
What's involved?
We are looking for help outside the venues to greet and orientate visitors, with an enthusiastic welcome.
Volunteer tasks will include:
- Greeting visitors and providing directions/information
- Directing families between museums
- Giving out small freebies to families and encouraging use of ‘selfie stations’ for pictures.
We are looking for people who:
- Are confident to interact in a friendly and enthusiastic way with members of the public, especially families with children.
- Have the ability to work without direct supervision throughout the night, taking initiative where necessary, and ensuring a positive representation of the museums to the public.
Volunteers from all backgrounds and experience are welcome, but those interested in gaining experience working in events, customer service, education or museums/heritage settings may find this role particularly useful.
Please note:
This role will be positioned outside and will require you to dress appropriately for the weather. Hand warmers, regular breaks inside, and hot refreshments will be provided.
The role requires remaining in a mobile position for prolonged periods. However, breaks will be given.
Why get involved?
This role will help you:
- Gain practical experience working with museum visitors and staff
- Work as part of a motivated, fun and enthusiastic team
- Give you valuable experience that will enhance your CV
- Help you meet new people within your local community.
