St Mark’s is a Church of England statutory Parish located in an area of multiple deprivation. Very ethnically diverse, we rank top 3% of most deprived Parishes in England. We are responding to the welfare and social challenges affecting our community, through our Community Hub & Safe Space project. At the Hub, our staff and volunteers work tirelessly to improve wellbeing and provide a support system for marginalised groups, struggling families and all are welcome, regardless of their Faith. Some of the support provided at the Hub are • Hot food Cafe/warm space provision to address food poverty/homelessness. • Tea4Free, Gardening Club and Zumba to improve mental wellbeing, health issues, reduce loneliness and provide opportunity to meet and interact with others. • Charity and agency visits to support and refer those that use our services to help available in the area. (this includes signposting/referral to debt advice, food bank, homeless charities, health checks and test for common ailments like Hepatitis and diabetes • Break out rooms for drop-in sessions, mental health support, common ailment tests We are heavily reliant on Volunteers to set up, meet and greet, set down, serve, help to prepare food and for light administrative and registration work. We offer free training appropriate to the role. We also carry out DBS checks to ensure the work environment is safe for all.
