Helping our guests feel welcome, treating everyone with respect and consideration. Ensuring an environment of inclusivity.

We are a church charity providing food, hygiene products and a cafe twice a week in our church hall in Millfield. We want our guests to feel welcome, comfortable, and safe. We aim to build relationships with our guests and like to chat with them. It's not just about giving out food, it's about making connections with people. It's also important that we give food that provides nutrition and contributes to a balanced diet.

We aim to prevent food waste that would end up in landfill. With that aim we collect from Supermarkets the food that would be sent to land fill. This food is sorted, stored in fridges and given out at our Cafe/food hub sessions. These collections take about 2hours. Volunteers are involved in this work.

We open 2 sessions per week Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-3pm. The volunteers work from 12-3.30 and take responsibility for setting up, giving out the food ( we do not cook) and serving refreshments. Volunteers are expected to help clean and tidy the area after each session.

We would like volunteers to be able to work in different interchangeable roles. Examples of these roles

1 Sorting and replenishing stocks; To be responsible for replenishing and sorting the stock we receive from supermarket collections. Bagging bread/rice/eggs etc ready to give out. (working behind the scenes)

2 Giving out food Serving customers explaining the day's choices of fruit, vegetables and other items.

3 Serving in the cafe giving out free drinks, cakes, savouries and fruit

.

4 Collections; We have people who collect from supermarkets during the week, volunteers may be required to help with these collections, loading and unloading. There can be large amounts of bakery, fruit and vegetables. We would not expect anyone to use their own car but perhaps to go with one of us to help.

5 Survey completion: As part of the new grant system (the Crisis Resilience Fund) it is a requirement that we report back to the City Council in various ways. One way is that our customers complete short surveys each month,  it would be very helpful if any volunteers could help with this. If volunteers speak other languages this would be a great help.

6 Packed lunches; PPreparation of children's packed lunches during the summer holidays.
