Summary
Strawberry Fair’s Welcome Team, creating fun gate experiences, managing volunteers and donations, and sharing that the fair is free but powered by generosity
Detailed description
Strawberry Fair is free, open, and for everyone, and the Welcome Team is where that story begins. We’re looking for a warm, imaginative, and organised volunteer to become our Welcome Team Coordinator, leading the way on how we welcome people into the Fair and encourage generous donations to help keep it alive.
This role is perfect for someone who loves people, enjoys building or bringing a team, and wants to create a fun, engaging, and memorable gate experience that shares the message: Strawberry Fair is free to enter, but it isn’t free to run.
What You’ll Be Doing
Before the Fair:
• Recruiting and/or bringing a Welcome Team, shaping a group ready to welcome visitors with warmth and flair;
• Encouraging creativity, helping design an entertaining approach at the gates - music, costumes, performance, or other joyful ideas;
• Planning gate coverage, focusing fully on two key gates this year, while still supporting collection at the two smaller entrances;
• Coordinating with organisers on messaging, donation methods, and practical arrangements;
• Preparing your team to handle cash and tap-to-pay donations confidently, while sharing the story of Strawberry Fair’s reliance on generosity.
On Fair Day:
• Leading the Welcome Team, creating a friendly, inclusive, and playful/family-friendly atmosphere;
• Championing donations, communicating in a positive way that Strawberry Fair is free but relies on generosity to survive;
• Overseeing cash and tap-to-pay donations, ensuring funds are collected accurately, securely, and transparently;
• Focusing energy on two main gates, making them high-impact welcome points;
• Supporting volunteers throughout the day, keeping spirits high and shifts running smoothly;
• Reporting back to organisers, sharing figures, observations, and any issues.
• Organising volunteers to gather donations as visitors leave, giving departing guests a final cheerful reminder of how their generosity keeps Strawberry Fair alive;
• Keeping the experience fun and engaging, turning departure points into a positive, celebratory interaction;
• Maximising contributions without being pushy, maintaining Strawberry Fair’s friendly, welcoming ethos.
What We’re Looking For:
• Someone who enjoys leading, motivating, and entertaining people;
• Able to recruit a team or arrive with one ready to go;
• Creative, imaginative, and comfortable trying playful ways to engage the public;
• Organised, trustworthy, and confident handling money;
• Able to communicate donation messaging clearly, positively, and confidently;
• Aligned with Strawberry Fair’s community-led, inclusive values;
• Experience in events, performance, fundraising, or volunteering is a bonus but not essential - enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment matter most.
Why Volunteer?:
• Play a crucial role in keeping the fair alive and be part of the heart and soul of Strawberry Fair;
• Shape how thousands of people experience the Fair from arrival to departure;
• Bring creativity, joy, and entertainment to a vital fundraising role;
• Gain hands-on experience in team leadership, event coordination, and fundraising;
• Develop skills in people management, communication, and public engagement;
• Have the freedom to design a fun, memorable, and playful gate experience;
• Meet and collaborate with a friendly, passionate, and like-minded volunteer team whilst enjoying exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Fair and its community;
• Open up opportunities to get involved with other local and national festivals and events, meeting a selection of highly skilled industry legends.
