Detailed description

The Assistant Football Manager supports the Team Manager in all aspects of running a junior/youth football team. This role is crucial for delivering engaging and effective coaching sessions, fostering a positive and safe environment for young players, and assisting with the team's administrative and matchday operations. The Assistant Manager plays a key role in the development and well-being of the players, working under the guidance of the Team Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Coaching & Player Development Support:

  •  Assist the Team Manager/Head Coach in planning and delivering age-appropriate, fun, and engaging training sessions.
  •  Lead parts of training sessions as directed by the Team Manager, focusing on specific drills, techniques, or small-sided games.
  • Provide individual and group coaching to players, offering constructive feedback to help improve their skills and understanding of the game.
  •  Help create a positive and encouraging learning environment that promotes player development, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  •  Assist in the assessment of player progress and provide input for player development plans.
  •  Promote good behavior, respect, and fair play among players during training and matches.

2. Match Day Operations:

 * Assist the Team Manager with match day preparations, including setting up equipment, checking pitches, and managing player readiness.

 * Support the Team Manager during matches with tactical decisions, substitutions, and player motivation.

 * Encourage players and maintain a positive attitude on the sideline.

 * Assist with post-match duties, such as packing away equipment and ensuring the changing rooms are left tidy.

3. Player Welfare & Safeguarding:

 * Prioritize the safety and well-being of all players at all times.

 * Act as a positive role model for young players, demonstrating excellent conduct and sportsmanship.

4. Administrative & General Support:

 * Assist the Team Manager with administrative tasks, such as taking attendance at training and matches, and communicating with parents (as directed).

 * Help with the management and maintenance of team equipment and kit.

 * Liaise with parents/guardians as required, providing updates on training, matches, and general team information, always in coordination with the Team Manager.

 * Be prepared to step in for the Team Manager when they are unavailable, subject to relevant qualifications and club approval.

Time Commitment:

 * Training Sessions: Approximately 1 hour per week.

 * Match Days: Approximately 2-4 hours per week (usually a weekend).

 * Other Duties: Occasional time for preparation, communication, or meetings as required.

Skills & Attributes:

 * Passion for Youth Football: A genuine enthusiasm for working with young people and developing their football skills.

 * Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team, supporting the Team Manager/Head Coach.

 * Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication with children, parents, and fellow coaches.

 * Patience & Encouragement: Ability to motivate and encourage young players of varying abilities.

 * Reliability & Punctuality: Dependable and consistent in attendance for training and matches.

 * Basic Football Knowledge: Understanding of the rules of football and basic coaching principles.

 * Safeguarding Awareness: A strong commitment to child welfare and safety.

Qualifications & Requirements (Club Dependent, but typically):

 * FA DBS Check: Mandatory for anyone working with children in football.

 * FA Safeguarding Children Course: Mandatory..

 * FA Playmaker Course or FA Introduction to Coaching Football (formerly Level 1): Highly desirable.

 * Willingness to undertake further training and development as required by the club or governing bodies.
