Summary

We are looking for young people aged 14-25 yrs to help us improve local health services ensuring young peoples views are listened providing equal access to all.

Detailed description

We are looking for young people aged 14- 25 years from all backgrounds to help us understand the concerns of young people around health services. We want to engage with as wide a range of young people as possible and ensure that your voices are heard and listened to. You can do this by joining put Youthwatch group.

Our Youthwatch volunteers meet on-line every month to talk about young peoples experience and concerns about local health care services.

This is what we do;

  • We work on one main project a year, researching the topic, looking at what services existing, we listen to other peoples experiences to find out what young people think. We then consider all of this and make recommendations on how the service could work better - and finally we look at ways to make this happen.
  • We also comment on new services that will affect young people as well as how changes to existing services will affect them.
  • We invite speakers to meetings on different subjects that can help build confidence and improve career development.
  • Training opportunities are available to those who want to broaden their knowledge and skills.

Youthwatch provides you with an opportunity to develop, enabling you to be heard - your voice is essential to improving local services and getting them right for all young people.

By sharing your views and experiences you can help managers of local services understand what young people want and by working with them we can help to put improvements in place. All the experiences we collect are anonymised.

You will also be helping Healthwatch as a whole gather a wide view of people’s opinions and experiences, helping us to gain a picture of how local services are working, what is working well and what needs to be improved. You will also help us share our message about the work Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough does.

No previous experience is required, but it’s important you are a good listener, happy to talk to others and want to meet new people. You will receive training to support your volunteering which is flexible and can suit your personal circumstances and study commitments. Volunteering usually takes place during the early evening between 5.30pm-7pm. There will also be opportunities to meet socially.

If you volunteer with us, you will:

·      Have an opportunity to meet new people

·      Improve skills that could help your studies, you could add to your CV, or could be a stepping stone to employment.

And we can provide references for those completing a project or volunteering with us for three months or more.

If you are interested, please visit our website to complete a volunteer application form or request the link by leaving a message here.
