The committee sets the direction and oversees the project. It makes the key decisions, ensures the project is well run, and is doing what it was set up to do.

Detailed description

Summary of the role:

  • To communicate with residents, to oversee a process of capacity building and self-management, and to encourage participation in the identification and resolution of various problems
  • To give direction to the project - establishing its primary purpose, goals and principles; reviewing and monitoring progress.
  • To participate in the group’s decision-making processes, understanding how they can participate and how decisions are made.
  • Adherence to the Constitution – participation in regular committee meetings and general meetings of the group.
  • To participate in the annual general meeting, including elections to the committee.
  • To ensure minutes are taken and recording decisions and tasks clearly noted.
  • Accountability - ensuring that related organisations, funders and agencies receive full reports on activities and use of resources
  • Managing Money - ensuring that money and property are used in line with the objectives and purpose of the project, and are administered properly and efficiently.
  • To brief new committee members.



Who will you be helping?

You will be helping to bring together residents to develop and deliver a varied programme of activities from the Community Centre which will provide a space for residents to meet and build relationships.

  • Have direct experience of living in Welland / Dogsthorpe
  • Can work collaboratively
  • Have the ability to represent the views of the local community
  • Have confidence to ask questions if information provided is not clear
  • Can act in a professional and courteous manner when undertaking duties on behalf of the steering group

Woodfield Park CommUnity Project aims to boost physical and mental wellbeing of residents by improving access to practical and emotional support. Woodfield Park Community Centre in Welland, Peterborough is being developed into a safe and welcoming community hub, delivering a co-produced, community-led programme of activities and volunteering opportunities that help connect residents to one another and to their community.
