Volunteer IT Support Role

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled volunteer to provide IT support across our organisation. This role is ideal for someone with experience or strong interest in IT systems, cloud platforms, and technical troubleshooting. You will play a key part in helping us maintain and improve our digital tools like Microsoft SharePoint and ensure our team can work efficiently and securely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup, configuration, and maintenance of IT systems, including hardware, software, and online platforms.
  • Support the development and organisation of our digital infrastructure environment, including site setup, permissions, and document management.
  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for improvement or optimisation.
  • Provide technical support and advice to staff and volunteers, helping resolve issues promptly.
  • Maintain user accounts, passwords, and access controls.
  • Support with updates, backups, and basic cybersecurity checks.
  • Document key processes and contribute to user guides or training materials.
  • Liaise with any external IT providers or consultants as needed.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience (or strong interest) in IT systems administration or support.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365, especially SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Ability to troubleshoot software and connectivity issues.
  • Good understanding of data security and best practices.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Time Commitment

Flexible, ideally a few hours per week, which can be arranged around your schedule. Some of the work may be carried out remotely.

Location

Remote and/or occasional on-site support (depending on location and organisational needs).
